John is a Partner and Co-Founder of Harbor View Advisors. He brings over 20 years of experience as an investment banker, investor, equity research analyst and management consultant.
John leads Harbor View’s Catalyst for Corporate Development practice where he helps clients fuel growth through acquired innovation.
Prior to founding Harbor View, John was a Vice President in the Technology Research Group at Goldman, Sachs & Co. in New York. As a publishing analyst, John’s research spanned companies with a total market capitalization of $100 billion across five industries including payment processing, financial services, travel services, business process outsourcing and business intelligence. Companies under coverage included Accenture, Amdocs, Automatic Data Processing, ChoicePoint, EDS, First Data Corp, Fiserv, Hewitt Associates and Sabre.
John’s experience also extends to the “buy-side” as a Partner at Camelot Capital, a hedge fund with targeted investments in public and private software and services companies. John led the investment decisions involving 80 companies in ten industries including business and financial services, payment processing, telecom services and security.
Prior to joining Goldman, John worked as Principal for A.T. Kearney in Chicago where he managed global consulting engagements in the U.S., Australia, Brazil, Denmark, Sweden and the United Kingdom. John’s practice expertise included international supply chain, global sourcing, process reengineering and strategic planning. John was active in helping A.T. Kearney establish new offices in Australia and Brazil and facilitated the integration of a consulting firm acquisition in Denmark. A sample of his client engagements includes Visa, Sears, Rolls Royce and General Motors.
John received a Bachelor of Arts degree from DePauw University and a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from The University of Chicago.
Outside of Harbor View, John is an Ironman, part-time triathlete and a father of three.
Carolyn is a Partner and Co-Founder of Harbor View Advisors. She brings over 20 years of experience in the investment banking industry.
Carolyn leads the firm's entrepreneurial services group where she helps companies prepare for market, evaluate strategic alternatives and navigate sell-side and capital raise processes.
Her experience includes 12 years with Goldman, Sachs & Co., in the investment banking and equities divisions as well as five years with Donaldson, Lufkin and Jenrette. Carolyn’s tenure on Wall Street includes all facets of capital markets transactions from mergers and acquisitions to initial public offerings and secondary offerings.
Carolyn received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Dickinson College and a Master of Business Administration (MBA) in Accounting and Finance from the University of Chicago.
Outside of Harbor View, Carolyn is a member of the Investment Committee of the UNF Foundation Board and a board member of the Florida Venture Forum. She enjoys attending sporting events as a mother of three and challenging her latest long-distance run.
Chris is a Partner at Harbor View Advisors. He brings over 15 years of experience as an attorney, entrepreneur, operating executive and investor in the technology, consulting and healthcare sectors.
In addition to leading sell-side and buy-side engagements, Chris leads the strategic consulting practice at Harbor View and works closely with entrepreneurs as they plan for liquidity events. He currently serves on both entrepreneurial and philanthropic boards, including Forcura, Wealth Access and Antisyn as well as the University of Tennessee College of Law Alumni Council and the Alumni Board of the University of Mississippi Patterson School of Accountancy.
Prior to joining the Harbor View team, Chris was a two-time Harbor View sell-side client. As Chief Operating Officer of Knowledge Infusion, a leading provider of strategic and deployment consulting services for human capital management technology. Chris was instrumental in managing the company's significant growth and was responsible for all aspects of the company’s sale to Appirio in October 2012.
Before Knowledge Infusion, Chris was Chief Financial Officer and General Counsel of Black Diamond Performance Reporting, where he helped grow the company from $1.5 million in revenue to more than $12 million in four years. Black Diamond was the leading independent provider of Web-based, outsourced portfolio management and reporting platforms to independent advisors until its $73 million acquisition by Advent Software (Nasdaq: ADVS) in June 2011. As Chief Financial Officer and General Counsel, Chris was responsible for negotiating strategic and collaboration agreements with national financial institutions and third-party technology providers. He also provided strategic advice and counsel to the company’s founder, executive team and board. In Black Diamond's sale to Advent, Chris assumed a comprehensive role in the internal management of the transaction.
Prior to joining Black Diamond, Chris was an attorney in the Corporate & Securities and Tax Groups at Bass, Berry & Sims in Nashville, Tennessee (“Bass”). During his tenure at Bass, Chris served in a variety of capacities for his clients throughout their lifecycles from initial formation and capital raising to general counsel and mergers and acquisitions to exits via public markets and private transactions.
Chris received a Bachelor of Accountancy magna cum laude and Master of Taxation from the University of Mississippi. He received his juris doctorate degree, magna cum laude, from the University of Tennessee School of Law. Following law school, Chris obtained his LL.M. in Taxation from New York University School of Law where he received the Harry J. Rudick award for distinction in the Graduate Tax Program.
Chris is a father of three, triathlete and seventh-generation Mississippian.
Shatara is a Vice President at Harbor View Advisors and helps to lead the firm’s consulting practice and manages sell-side and buy-side deal execution. In her role, she conducts strategic assessments, institutes client roadmaps to drive optimal exit opportunities and ensures successful transaction outcomes for clients.
Prior to joining Harbor View, Shatara worked as a Registered Representative for Fidelity Investments and in the Audit Services practice at Deloitte & Touche.
Shatara received a Bachelor of Business Administration, summa cum laude, and Master of Business Administration (MBA) from the University of North Florida.
Outside of Harbor View, Shatara is passionate about mentorship and serves on the UNF Women of Coggin committee.
Jason is an Associate at Harbor View Advisors with deep experience in finance, operations and transactions. As a three-time former client of Harbor View, he is able to see engagements from an operator's perspective.
Jason executes buy-side and sell-side transactions on behalf of our clients bringing specific strengths in financial reporting, modeling and valuation.
Prior to joining Harbor View, Jason held executive operations and finance roles at Black Diamond Performance Reporting, Knowledge Infusion, and 110% Play Harder. In each of his prior positions, he played a central role in facilitating and successfully closing transactions to strategic acquirers.
Jason received his Bachelor of Business Administration (B.B.A.) with a concentration in Accounting from the University of North Florida.
Outside of Harbor View, Jason enjoys running and is a fan of the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Margaret is an Associate at Harbor View and works with clients on sell-side, buy-side and consulting engagements. She brings a creative point of view, especially through the firm’s marketing and product development initiatives.
She began her career at Harbor View as a summer intern during college and joined the firm full time as an Analyst following graduation.
Margaret received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Journalism and Mass Communication with a concentration in Advertising from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
Outside of Harbor View, Margaret enjoys art, design and Pure Barre classes.
Lori is the Operations Manager for Harbor View Advisors. She has 35 years of experience in the financial services industry and specializes in client service, operations and compliance.
At Harbor View, Lori is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the business and compliance with industry rules and regulations. Her “can do” spirit creates positive energy among the team.
Before joining the Harbor View team in 2010, Lori was employed by Smith Barney and its various predecessors for 29 years, originally in her hometown of Watertown, New York and then in Ponte Vedra.
Lori holds an Associate Applied Science Degree from Jefferson Community College in Watertown, New York.
Outside of Harbor View, Lori enjoys golf, fashion, travel and involvement with the St. Johns County Chamber as well as other charitable organizations that promote goodwill within the community.
Michelle is the Finance Manager for Harbor View Advisors. In her role, she is responsible for the accounting and finance functions of the firm, including managing the accounting policies and procedures, preparing the company’s financial statements and regulatory filings, and providing strategic analysis to achieve the firm’s vision and strategies.
Before joining the Harbor View team, Michelle has held various executive level finance roles including Vice President of Finance at One Call Care Management in Jacksonville, Florida.
Michelle received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Health Information Systems and Management from The Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio.
Outside of Harbor View, Michelle loves running and currently serves as President of the Florida Striders Track Club. She also enjoys being involved with non-profit organizations within the community and spending time with her husband and children.
Jim is a Partner at Vu Partners, a private equity and strategy consulting firm. Jim was one of the Founding Partners at Harbor View Advisors and brings over 20 years of investment banking, entrepreneurship and board-level experience as a strategic advisor to the firm.
Inspired by the entrepreneurial spirit, Jim offers strategic guidance to business owners as they build value and determine the next stage for their organizations. The combination of experience as an entrepreneur and investment banker informs his approach as he works with our clients and serves on the boards of several fast-growing technology companies including GreenJobInterview, Pacesetter Technology, RF Smart and Breezy HR.
Prior to founding Harbor View, Jim was President of Vurv Technology where he helped grow the company from a 30 employee, closely-held start-up to a dynamic, venture-backed company with more than 350 employees. During that time, Vurv became a global leader in the talent management market, providing software applications to streamline strategic human resources processes such as hiring and employee performance management. As President, Jim’s role included management of operations as well as sourcing of capital and M&A activity. During Jim’s tenure, the company raised $33 million of venture capital from top-tier venture firms and executed three successful acquisitions and one divestiture. Jim was also a member of Vurv’s Board of Directors from 2003 until its successful sale to Taleo Corporation (now part of Oracle) in 2008.
Prior to joining Vurv, Jim was a Partner in the Investment Banking Group at Thomas Weisel Partners (TWP) in San Francisco. Jim joined TWP as one of its first employees and participated in the establishment and growth of the Internet, Business Services and Media investment banking groups. As an investment banker at TWP, Jim executed more than $5 billion in transactions. Prior to joining TWP, Jim worked as a senior investment banker for Montgomery Securities in San Francisco. Jim also worked as an M&A specialist for Financo (formerly a division of Lehman Brothers) and Dean Witter Reynolds in New York.
Jim received a Bachelor of Arts from Vanderbilt University and a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from Stanford University Graduate School of Business.
Outside of Harbor View, Jim is an avid ultra-marathoner, triathlete, motivator and father of three.
