Harbor View Advisors Internship Alumni – Where They Are Now and How Harbor View Positively Impacted Their Careers

July 2019 — By Harbor View Advisors

Though the time with our interns is short, we intentionally build and nurture long lasting relationships. We recruit interns that are humble, hungry and smart and have what it takes to help us build a firm that stands the test of time. We consider our interns part of the Harbor View family and are proud to see them leverage their internship experience as they begin their careers at Harbor View or beyond.

Updates from a few of our internship program alumni:

NICK MIGNONE (2018 & Current Harbor View Senior Associate)

What is one of your fondest memories or experiences during your HVA internship?

I had the opportunity to attend a Florida Venture Forum event in Jacksonville, where I gained industry insights on emerging technologies and networked with key players in the entrepreneurial ecosystem in our region. The event was eye opening from a content perspective and seeing the many great things developing in the Jacksonville area resonated with me.

How has the HVA internship helped you in your current position, and/or as you seek to further your career?

Completing the HVA internship was the perfect way to onboard as a full time Analyst, and now full time Senior Associate. Throughout the summer, I assumed a hands-on role on live deals and extended my professional network and knowledge via attending “lunch and learns” and various event forums. My internship experience helped me to learn the basics of moving deals forward and gain insight on the technology and services middle market that we serve.

How has the HVA internship helped you in your current position, and/or as you seek to further your career?

I can firmly say that I would not be where I am today without my time at Harbor View.  Going into the internship right after freshman year of college, HVA gave me the intellectual foundation for my career in investment banking and showed me how the real business operates.  The experience I had over those 8 weeks could not have been replicated through a college course.

How has the HVA internship helped you in your current position, and/or as you seek to further your career?

Not only did Harbor View help me build my professional network, but I also learned M&A skills that I now utilize every day. Harbor View allowed me to learn about investment banking by putting me on live deals from day one. The finance terminology and modeling skills that were new to me during my summer internship are now the foundation of my career as an Analyst.

How has the HVA internship helped you in your current position, and/or as you seek to further your career?

The Harbor View internship was one of the most impactful experiences I’ve had so far in advancing my career. The partners truly want to see every intern succeed at whatever career is best for them – I remember several one on one meetings with Carolyn dedicated to helping me figure out my future in trading, even though that would obviously mean I wouldn’t be returning to Harbor View. She gave me invaluable advice and helped connect me to another person in the area who would help guide me through the recruiting process and offer impartial advice once it came time to make a decision. I honestly don’t think there is any internship in the area that would have been better for my career or personal development.

How has the HVA internship helped you in your current position, and/or as you seek to further your career?

It provided me with a great stepping stone into the job that I have now. I was able to leverage my experience at HVA to secure an internship at a bulge bracket bank in New York City, which is where I work today.

ANNE ZEHIL (2016 & Current HVA Analyst)

Anne Zehil

What is one of your fondest memories or experiences during your HVA internship?

During my internship I was staffed on a deal with Carolyn and a former associate. Analysts typically do not go to client meetings, but Carolyn brought me along to a planning meeting in Orlando where I was able to meet with the CEO and CFO and listen to how they thought about their business. It was a great experience and a highlight of my summer

How has the HVA internship helped you in your current position, and/or as you seek to further your career?

The internship gave me insight into what my role and responsibilities would be as an Analyst. I was able to get live deal experience while I was still in college; when I came in as a full time Analyst, I felt more comfortable and confident given that I had already seen a portion of a process.

Public Finance Analyst at Bank of America Merrill Lynch in New York City

How has the HVA internship helped you in your current position, and/or as you seek to further your career?

There are two major ways in which my internship at HVA has impacted my path to becoming a full-time analyst in the Public Finance Investment Banking division at BAML. First, the confidence that I gained from what I had learned during my internship and the support that I felt from my HVA mentors was invaluable to me during the recruitment process.  I had a strong grasp of the investment banking industry and even felt comfortable using industry terms, none of which would have been possible without my internship.  The second major way that HVA has helped me end up where I am today is by helping me better understand what to look for in a prospective work environment.  One of the reasons that I am going into public finance rather than corporate finance is because it is a much smaller team.  In the public finance division, I had the opportunity to work closely with the directors and managing directors on every deal.  I knew from my time at HVA how valuable it was to have that kind of access to people with so much more experience and expertise than me and that is a major reason that I ended up choosing this particular job over others.
